In the March 17, 2024 Pastorate bulletin, we learned from our Parochial Administrator, Fr. Tim Renz, what Saint name our Pastorate would take on. Here is the excerpt from the bulletin:
"The second big news is that we have our patron saint for our pastorate! We are no longer to be referred to as Pastorate 16, but we are now St. Therese of Lisieux Pastorate! Once we merge, we will become St. Therese of Lisieux Parish and our school will be St. Therese of Lisieux Catholic School.
As you recall, we went through the process to identify three names to Bishop Hying who would then make the final decision. Our Go Make Disciples Pastorate Team identified over 40 possible names and ranked them in order of preference. Fr. Jim Leeser and I were to pick five from the recommendations of the GMD team and we ended up picking their top five. You then had the opportunity to vote on those five to determine the three names that would be submitted to Bishop Hying.
St. Michael the Archangel received 50% of the vote and was the clear preference of the people, with St. John Paul second and St. Theresa of Calcutta in third. Since I knew these would be popular choices among the pastorates, I added our fourth choice of St. Therese of Lisieux and a fifth choice of my personal favorite, Our Lady of Sorrows.
I know St. John Paul the Great went to Pastorate 7 and St. Theresa of Calcutta went to Pastorate 14 (with Sullivan). I’m not sure what happened to St. Michael, but I do know that Bishop Hying has a great devotion to St. Therese and probably lit up seeing her on our list. I have to admit, I’m quite pleased he ended up choosing her. She is a beautiful saint with a lot to teach us."
